Adam Roberts

Adam Roberts is one of my earthy friends. Why earthy? Adam Roberts enjoys hippy food, Bob Dylan and cowboy boots. I met Adam Roberts through another cool guy, Plato. The three of us love to sing and dance together, especially when Adam Roberts is playing the guitar.

Adam Roberts used to live in a tent, but it became too cold outside and now he has found another, warmer, place to stay. Adam Roberts is one of the beastliest mountain men that I have met. Adam Roberts accompanied me up to Camp Muir… and left me in his dust even though he was climbing with skis and boots on his back. Adam Roberts is a tank of a man.

Jordan’s 1st Annual Christmas

My younger brother, Jordan, had his first annual Christmas. Our other two littlest brothers, Justin and Josh came as well as my mom and stepdad. Jordan’s wife Megan did an excellent job cooking up a fine ham, cheesy potatoes and a big batch of asparagus and green bean salad.

The family got me some good gifts; a black messenger bag, a bartender’s guide and a couple cooking books, and a big box of beef jerky (I have received beef jerky as a gift every year for the last 15 years lol). I gave my brothers posters, beef jerky and a group ski trip with me.

I also took a ton of photos of my family that I will post here once I download them from my camera.

Shotguns

On Wednesday, the day after the birth of your Lord, I went and blew away some clay pigeons with a shotgun. Trent invited me to join him and his father down in Orting. His dad, Jay, and his dad’s buddy, Bryan, taught me how to use a shotgun. It’s pretty simple, you just load in the shells, cock, and fire. It took me about ten or fifteen shots to figure out how to aim the darn thing, but once I did, I was pretty good. I have been to a shooting range before shooting pistols at a stationary target, but shooting a shotgun at moving targets is way more fun. A shotgun fits my personality better than most other weapons and seems to be more useful than other guns. When you fire it, the shot spreads out and is able to spray in a large target area, so your aim doesn’t have to be perfect.

After we blew the hell out of a bunch of red clay discs, we went back to Jay’s house and relaxed with Trent’s sisters and stepmom and drank beer. Trent’s aunt and uncle came over along with their son who recently graduated law school and the group of us had a pretty good time talking. I could see a lot of my personality in Trent’s dad; intelligent, fun, self-centered and wild. Trent also has some similar characteristics, but he has rebelled enough away that there are also significant differences. It was interesting to watch their family interact, everyone was much less rigid than my family is. Plus, Trent’s sisters were pretty cute lol.

Couldn’t resist that final jab, Trent. 😉

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

I just finished reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand. Her philosophy, Objectivism, embodies most of what I believe: individualism, reason, free market capitalism, and allowing people to build for their own success. “Atlas Shrugged” builds on Ayn Rand’s previous book, “The Fountainhead” and greatly expands her philosophy. The actual writing and plot are not very good, but her ideas are brilliant. It took me a long time to get through it, because at the end there is a 45 page lecture by the main character essentially laying out her ideas in great detail and it is easy to become bogged down here. I put the book aside for awhile and came back to it and just finished it last night. I recommend it to everyone.

Trent Comes to Roost

On Saturday morning at around 2 am, Trent arrived at my apartment for his Washington vacation. He hopped on my couch, but was feeling antsy from his flight so we talked for about an hour and a half catching up on life. His Audi is a fine machine and he sounds like he is in love for the first time in a while. We eventually dozed off.

Plato sent me a Gmail instant message in the morning and wanted to go shopping and to a coffee shop with Trent and I. We met up downtown at Nordstrom’s and wandered our way through various shops and didn’t purchase anything. Looking at all the people out and about downtown Seattle was more than enough fun for me. Lots of poor singers, homeless people, families, wealthy singles and crack dealers were mingling. We hiked our way across I-5 to the Bauhaus Cafe and discussed the world. Trent was determined to be the extreme stylish man, Trent the alright style man and I was the no style man lol.

The day was pretty chilly and grey, and when we ventured back out we only made it about two blocks before we arrived at Clever Dunn’s Irish Pub. Trent had a “dirty house vodka martini in a well glass”, I had a whiskey coke and Plato drank his standard gin and tonic. Trent had mapped out the whole evening for us, so next we moved on to Tango Tapas. Tango Tapas is good, but expensive restaurant that serves, surprise surprise, tapas. The three of us ate to our hearts content and shared two bottles of wine. My new hero, Trent also picked up the tab. I love that man.

Now that we had full bellies and a solid buzz, we made our way up to the Elysian brewery with Bryan Herbertson who had recently joined us. Bryan Herbertson bought himself a pretty nice Beamer and took pleasure in showing it off for us. I was impressed by its rapid acceleration and handling. Now that all the Joneses are getting cars, I may have to get one too. Can’t fall behind the Jonesies.

The Elysian brewery was a lot of fun. We ordered five pitchers of beer with about four pints apiece, so by the time we finished all of them our group was approaching ridiculous territory. Plato was getting pretty pissed at Trent and I for our behavior (we had begun to flick ice at one another and Trent kept lighting matches for the candles then blowing them out). Amy Stewart, one of my coworkers, called me around this time and said she was bored so I invited her to come join the party. I probably wasn’t exactly an impressive professional at this point lol. She showed up and joined right in the fun though, downing a couple pints and accompanying us on to the next destination: Linda’s Tavern.

Linda’s Tavern was pretty full, but we went up to the bar and ordered another round of well drinks. Trent began his not exactly sober attempts at wooing the women of the bar. I remember seeing him approach two women sitting at a booth and when they looked creeped out, I went and pulled him away. Two minutes later I looked back up and there he was again, except this time he had slid in right next to one of them. The girls hurriedly put on their coats and left. Trent usually has great success with women, but in his silly state he managed to chase a dozen out haha. I was talking to a group of people outside and Trent joined in. After one rather large woman walked away, Trent kindly pointed out to the remaining girl that now that the fat one was gone, we had more room. She replied that that fat one was her best friend and walked away. Trent and I laughed our asses off. Amy wasn’t doing too badly and was sitting at a table with a couple of fine young (or not-quite-so-young) gentleman. Trent approached and told them, “This is my daughter and you NEED to be RESPECTFUL to her and treat her well. I don’t appreciate your insolent attitudes and the way you are approaching her.” hahahah. I love that guy, but Amy probably doesn’t.

We finished the evening and Bryan drove Plato back to the U-district. Amy drove me and a jabbering Trent home. Trent tried telling her that I was secretly in love with her and when that failed, tried needling the poor woman as many ways as he could. I really wish i had video of the evening, it was the most fun I’ve had in quite some time.

Off to shoot shotguns now with Trent and his dad, I’ll tell the some of the other less scandalous stories later.

Trent’s New Duds

My friend Trent just purchased a beautiful 2000 Audi TT MK1 with turbo and 230 HP. Trent will now be cruising in a gorgeous car with 18” rims, tight suspension and great handling. Pictures of Trent’s new ride are below.

Jeremy Nunnally New car

Trent is a very, very lucky man. Mmm… What a sweet car.

Audi For Jeremy Nunnally

I. Want. One.

And I will kill to get it.

Trent will be at my apartment tonight at 2 am and I will murder him in his sleep and fly down to LA and drive his car back up. I will use his scalp to help give my couch more cushion. Why don’t people still get scalped? Scalping is awesome.

Can’t Miss Bowl Games

College football’s bowl season is now upon upon us. The system that the NCAA currently has in place is badly broken, so there will be many games that aren’t worth watching. However, there are still a few pretty good ones if you have the time. Check out below:

December 27, 2007– Pacific Life Holiday Bowl at San Diego California. #11 Arizona State vs #19 Texas.
The game should be a pretty good one as two of the best teams from their respective conferences clash in a bigtime match.

January 1, 2008- Capitol One Bowl at Orlando Florida. #12 Florida vs Michigan
Ooooh, there’s nothing I love so much as an old-fashioned beatdown of a way overrated team in Michigan. Michigan got beat by Appalachian State to begin the year (first ranked Division 1 team to lose to a Division 2). In the next game, Oregon humiliated Michigan in a blowout. Michigan managed to win the following few games in it’s weak-ass conference and somehow made it to a bowl. Florida is playing at home and is an extremely dominant team featuring Heisman winner Tim Tebow. I am going to enjoy watching another nail being hammered in the Michigan coffin.

January 1, 2008– The Rose Bowl Game. #7 USC versus #13 Illinois.
Another entertaining game of watching a team from the crummy Big-10 conference get beat. USC should be playing in the national championship game, but instead we will enjoy watching Illinois get bombarded by one of the most heralded teams ever assembled in college football.

January 7, 2008-BCS National Championship Game.
Ohio State should not be here and LSU will demonstrate to them why.

3 UNC Football Players Molested

I just spotted the headline on ESPN.com and read the article on three University of North Carolina college football players who were sexually attacked. Apparently, a man and two women robbed and sexually assaulted three college football players. Prosecutors have made a statement that the three players and the two women met at a bar in downtown Chapel Hill and came home. One player was drunk and went to his room. The other two guys had “some consensual sexual contact with the women”, but got weirded out and told them to quit. The details of the event are sketchy here, but apparently the police arrived soon after and the two victims were tied up, wearing boxer shorts. Two of the players were sexually assaulted and the final police report has not yet been released with details on the third man. Below are photographs of the three accused:

University of North Carolina Football Players were sexually assaulted by these people

Left to right: Tnika Monta Washington, 29, Monique Jenice Taylor, 28, Michael Troy Lewis, 32

Bad Jokes Disclaimer: Sexual assault is a terrible, horrible thing and we don’t know all the details of what happened yet. I am a tad confused at how three massive college football players get raped though. I will update this as more information comes out.

In the meantime, I have some questions….

-These are big-time college football players, basically gods on their own campuses… so why in the world are they having ANY consensual sexual contact with these women?! Did they SEE them? The one looks like she weighs 400 lbs! Maybe they were trying to recruit her to help them win a game or two next year. The other one looks like she was tossed out of the Ugly Airplane and banged her head on every airplane made since the Wright brothers first flight.

-One player told the women to stop touching him and both of them started hitting him in the head. C’mon dude, your JOB is to hit people. Knock the hell out of those hideous bitches.

-Question: How many UNC college football players does it take to fight off two women?

Answer: North Carolina has a football team?

-The names of the players haven’t been released, but my guess is they were on defense. UNC didn’t stop anybody all year long… ugh that was bad. Sorry. I am trying to resist.

-The two football players were tied down BEFORE the man arrived. I bet it was the huge chick, she could probably squash me too.

-UNC Football coach Butch Davis made two statements after hearing about this,

“I am relieved that the players were uninjured. We will assist them in any way we can.”

“The University of North Carolina football program is proud to extend two full athletic scholarships to Tnika Monta Washington and to Monique Jenice Taylor.”

Enough. I feel like I should go wash my soul now.

Almost There…

Two more work days and then I have nine straight days of vacation! I may even have eleven if my boss lets me take New Years Eve day off as well. I haven’t had this much vacation in a year and a half- I think the most I’ve taken off was four or five days in a row.

Trent will be flying in on Saturday morning in the early AM and later that day he and I will be going out to eat and then out to bars. Sunday we’re going out for dinner again and then to the Garage for bowling and fun. I’m going to go to my little brother’s Christmas Eve party on Monday and then over to my grandparents house on Tuesday. Wednesday will be shooting day with Trent’s dad and Thursday through Saturday we will be staying in a hotel on White Pass and skiing.

I still don’t have any New Years Plans yet, so if anybody has anything cool, let me know!

Free Online Courses at MIT

MIT has made many of it’s courses FULLY available online- videotaped lectures, audio of lectures, notes, quizzes, exams and extra material. Freaking amazing. I am going to work on getting a full MIT education on my free time. I started listening to Introduction to Algorithms, but it’s pretty advanced (your supposed to have a Masters degree in Computer Science to take it). I am going to use it to refresh my accounting, economics and finance education. The internet is making my life better once again. I can find anything I want on it; apartments, furniture, women, education, shopping, clothes that fit me, entertainment, games, movies, music…. I love technology.
