How I Voted

I just filled in my Washington State ballot. I believe in liberty and freedom for individuals and a limited government that focuses on protecting the rights of people from one another. Highly competitive free markets are the reason America has been successful as it is. You can read more about my political philosophy here if you wish.

I filled in almost my entire ballot based on those principles, mostly aligning with the recommendations of the Washington State Libertarian Party and if they did not have a recommendation, the Washington State Republican Party. I voted for the Republican candidates for Governor, the Republican for Lt. Governor, Republican for Secretary of State, Republican for Attorney General, and every other Republican down the ballot.

However, I did make one major change: I voted for Democrat Joe Biden for President.

Trump has abandoned all of the principles of Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians. He cheated on every wife he has had, he committed criminal tax fraud then he supposedly converted to Christianity right in time for his presidential run. His family members and his personal attorney and his handpicked cabinet members have said he has no principles other than gross self interest. He dodged the draft several times, then called American war hero John McCain a loser, and said people serving in America’s military are “suckers”. America is a nation built by immigrants and the American dream is to come here and make something for your family – he has betrayed this and his racism has made America a place others fear. He has abandoned democracies and republics, and has strongly favored dictators.

Trump has embraced dictators all over the globe, from Erdogan to Kim Jong Un to Vladimir Putin. He has abandoned democracies in NATO and elsewhere. He pulled US troops out of Germany out of personal spite.

Trump has shown his utter incompetence in his handling of the coronavirus. Read the timeline where he said on January 22 “We have it totally under control”. January 24 “China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!”. February 7th in private he said “It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flu… This is deadly stuff”… but on February 10th he lied to Americans and said “I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.” 200,000 Americans are dead because of him, while countries like New Zealand were able to completely squash it with a good leader. This is like a 9/11 that happened a hundred times in a row… all because an incompetent President could not stop it.

Trump made a promise to release his tax returns in the 2016 race that he never fulfilled. He has committed tax fraud several times, including proven instances through the 1990’s and upon his father’s death.

Trump has failed in business all of his life, counter to the lies he tells. The only reason he still has money today is that his father left him an immense fortune, that he has turned into a much smaller fortune. Through the 90’s, his father gave him $50 million per month to help him as multiple companies went bankrupt.

Now that Trump has no father to keep bailing him out, he has turned to foreign dictators like Putin for help. Mueller (a conservative Republican) proved that Trump had solicited Putin’s help in 2016, and that Trump tried to obstruct justice and only Trump’s stranglehold on Senators kept him from being convicted.

Trump’s close friend and personal attorney of many years,  Michael Cohen, testified that Trump got Russia to interfere in the 2016 election, that he had sex with porn stars and then paid them to be quiet, and has said Trump is a “cheat, liar, fraud, bully, racist, predator, and con man”.

Many of Trump’s other hand picked people have said he is unfit for office. National Security Advisor John Bolton says he is “stunningly uniformed”, Defense Secretary James Mattis says Trump “tries to divide us”, Chief of Staff John Kelly says he is the first president in his lifetime who does not try to unite the American people, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Trump “is undisciplined, doesn’t like to read, doesn’t read briefing reports”. Keep in mind these are his HANDPICKED people.

Trump is racist and openly so. In his national debate less than a month ago, he asked the Proud Boys, a white supremacy group, to “stand back and stand by”. Trump’s foolish wall won’t work, costs an enormous amount of money, is paid for by US taxpayers, not Mexico as he promised, and is simply racist.

Trump has refused to support a smooth transition of power, the most basic principle of democracy. His accusations of the “China plague” are racist. His absolute hatred of Barack Obama started with his racist and foolish claims Obama did not have a birth certificate. In his speeches, he repeated refers to Mexicans as rapists and murderers. Read the article linked to, there is a half century of evidence he is a racist.

Trump has not shared his health records or had his physicals shared like prior Presidents. It appears Trump may have suffered from a stroke. Trump’s own niece, a doctor of clinical psychology, describes Trump as a fraud, a bully, and the world’s most dangerous man… she does this at great personal cost as she violates her NDA and risks everything she owns.

Trump has fired people from government who were very competent and has had them replaced with his personal stooges. Many of these stooges are grossly incompetent. Trump wants to turn America into a third world style corrupt dictatorship.

I agree with this VERY long list of Republicans who are not voting for Trump in 2020. And you can’t just not vote for Trump while writing in another candidate… that is pretty much a vote for Trump. You need to vote for Joe Biden.

Joe Biden is a reasonable choice and has made promises and is running as a centrist. I think Joe Biden realizes that this race is bigger than just Democrats winning… it’s about keeping America a democracy and so he is willing to compromise with conservatives and move to the center politically.
