Seattle Times story about why so many WA farms are shutting down https://www.seattletimes.com/business/agriculture/3700-wa-farms-shut-down-in-5-years-why/#:~:text=The%20stressors%20placed%20on%20farmers,less%20interested%20in%20taking%20over.
All of these “solutions” address the symptoms like depressed farmers rather than the root problem: low profitability. Low profits are because farmers produce commodity goods whose price is set by the lowest cost producers we import from. Farmers in Chile, Mexico or Ukraine do not have the extremely high wage costs nor the expensive government red tape and environmental rules we do here, so it is not a fair playing field.
If you want government to regulate the costs a farmer has to deal with, you have to support high food tariffs so our farmers can make a living and pay for help. Or remove all the burdensome regulations and let farmers do what they think is best.
