Seattle and New York City both elected socialists as mayor in the last couple of weeks. How do you think absolute dictators came to rule over people in Germany, China, Russia, and North Korea? It seems like a pretty diverse array of countries with very different cultures? These dictators were all from socialist parties and all promised that the government would solve the problems facing the people. Socialist countries are fundamentally controlled entirely by the government; instead of private businesses and organizations and people making important decisions, the government makes those decisions. As we all know from the DMV, the government is pretty inefficient and inept at making decisions for us. Free markets certainly have problems, but you at least have the choice to take your business elsewhere. Under socialism, you have no other choices and will end up in prison or murdered if you argue too much.
