“This is going to hurt” is a book written by a doctor turned comedian about his experiences in the NHS healthcare system as a Ob-Gyn. Fantastic short read, I highly recommend it. Funny, punchy, and heartfelt.
I was surprised by Adam’s defense of the single payer system despite the problems he pointed out – severe shortages of doctors, low pay, incompetent management, IT systems that didn’t work, and schedules designed to burn people out.
Our system certainly has problems too – regulatory capture, doctor shortages due to artificial restrictions on new doctors, and high costs.
I’d like to a see a system set free of special interests. No red tape government control, no guilds / unions artificially limiting supply, and far lower barriers to entry.
