Donald Trump has suffered 4 in person assassination attempts, the most of any American President in history. Abraham Lincoln, also a Republican targeted by the far left, is tied for second place with Gerald Ford.
What about Trump is different than other Presidents? Why have so many people tried to murder him? Why does he inspire such insane hatred?
The major Democrats and far left leaders have used extraordinarily polarizing language to oppose Trump and his policies, frequently calling him a Nazi and a fascist and a threat to democracy. Those leaders are trying to attract attention in our tech overloaded brains and most of us get that, but a few gullible individuals take those statements at face value and act upon them.
Trump’s policies themselves are actually similar to positions Democrats themselves held in the 1990s. Trump’s four most controversial policies have been enforcing immigration laws, attacking Iran and Venezuela, major shakeups of the bureaucracy, and tax cuts.
Bill Clinton, as President in the 1995 State of the Union, Clinton stated, “All Americans are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country,” and he signed the sweeping Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 which drastically increased border patrols and deportations. Chuck Schumer strongly opposed illegal immigration in the 90s as well, though he flipped recently as society’s opinions changed.
Bill Clinton also signed the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, which delivered major tax cuts, including reducing the top capital gains tax rate from 28% to 20% and creating the $500-per-child tax credit. This tax cut and credit policy is nearly identical to what Trump has done.
Almost every president in modern memory has had a variety of foreign conflicts, although Trump has taken much more independent action than those prior presidents did.
The single biggest difference between Trump and any prior president is his attempts to shake up the monstrous bureaucracy in Washington DC. When millions of bureaucrats feel their livelihoods are at risk, they take strong action and lash out harshly. I believe this is what most has led to the big changes in the Democrat leadership’s rhetoric from attacking policies to attacking the man himself. They are under intense pressure from millions of government union employees to do anything possible to stop Trump.
My guess is more Americans would support reforming the massive bloated bureaucracy than the other policies, so I hope Trump continues to do surgery on the ever growing bureaucratic cancers that have nearly overwhelmed our government.
