I always tell myself and those around me that my primary motivation in work and life is family. I think that this is partially true, but I am also very motivated by building things, competing, helping myself, helping my team, and learning new things.
I also have this vision of perfect happy family time, but that is not necessarily true either. It is just regular life with ups and downs. Some people are nice, some annoying. I need to be less rude to people. Some of them pick on poor Joel. I really like the little toddlers though, very entertaining.
