I closed out all of my US Treasury bond positions I had left today.
I moved to:
- IGRO
- FLIA
- GVAL
- DISV
As well as some direct purchases of Finish and Danish government bonds.
I am in the process of moving surplus USD cash from Coalition into my brokerage to put it into the above investments as well.
The reasoning for the move is laid out here by Ray Dalio https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/13/billionaire-ray-dalio-im-worried-about-something-worse-than-a-recession.html. Long term, the US national debt is a huge problem. The concern is that some of the whipsawing tariffs (which I do support, but set them and leave them) are damaging confidence in the USD will make the national debt a short term problem. If big countries like China start selling their US Treasuries or simply not buying the new issuance coming soon, the US will not be able to refinance and would default, making dollars worthless or severely devaluing them like when the US went off the gold standard. I did vote for Trump by the way and generally support his policies.
I like to own assets with real underlying value – like land that can be used to produce things, or a business that does useful services for others. I do not like owning things without underlying productive value like cryptocurrencies or any currency really.
