I think that Facebook and other social media network companies should be held financially liable for damages and punitive damages if they run false or misleading ads.

Great example of regulatory capture. Regulatory capture could probably be stopped with laws preventing companies from hiring their regulators and from lobbying, but that has bad side effects too.
