Daddy Lesson #5: SLEEP IS CRITICAL

Daddy Lesson #5: SLEEP IS CRITICAL to being happy and to achieving anything in life. If you are reading this right now, finish reading and then go to bed! 😂

During deep sleep, your brain cells literally shrink by up to 60%, allowing cerebrospinal fluid to rush in and wash away toxic byproducts (like amyloid-beta proteins) that accumulate during waking hours.

It is all too easy to stay up late with the bright lights of our screens keeping our brains active. All of these algos feed us an endless doom scroll of content tailored to keep us coming back for more.

It is hard, but I recommend setting strict boundaries for yourself that for the last hour before bedtime you just read books or do things that do not involve a screen.

Sleep is when the brain transfers short-term memories from the hippocampus to the prefrontal cortex, solidifying them into long-term memory. It also prunes away useless information to make room for new learning.

Your body builds muscle and your brain strengthens itself during sleep. Your body releases the vast majority of its Human Growth Hormone (HGH) during the first round of deep sleep. This repairs tissue, builds muscle, and rejuvenates skin (producing collagen).

If you need a final reason to sleep – lack of sleep makes you fat! Sleep deprivation spikes ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and suppresses leptin (the fullness hormone). It also increases levels of endocannabinoids—the same chemicals that cause the “munchies” when using marijuana.
