We are not operating in a vacuum. The world needs to reopen, or far more people are going to die of other causes. Only one in six people who usually would be diagnosed with cancer or diagnosed in the last two months. The additional cancer deaths were going to see alone are going to outstrip the virus. I also think that a lot of people are becoming desperate everywhere, I think the risk of war, civil strife, or a lot of other bad things is probably about 100 times higher than it was this time last year. I think the swedish approach at this point is the right approach. I advocated for a shutdown early on when the death rate looked extremely high, but now it is high but not as bad as we thought. People have also changed their behaviors in large ways that should reduce risk. Now is the time to reopen.
