Eiffel Tower and Sacra Couer

Eiffel Tower visit for the 4th of July! We also visited Sacra Couer where a scary gang of African string men tried to extort us. These guys run a con where a bunch surround you and try to put African bracelet strings on your arm without your permission, then intimidate you into paying them. The Paris police had absolutely zero officers in the area with thousands of tourists and dozens of these con men tryi g to prey on them. After I cursed at one of them Laurel pointed out that there was a big gang of them around us and I should be more careful. Fortunately we escaped!

We left at 1pm and got back at midnight. 9 hours of walking and two hours of eating! Tired.

Paris Catacombs

In a record setting high temperature week in Paris, Laurel and I cooled off with a visit to the Catacombs of Paris. Six million Parisian residents bones are interred here. Kind of creepy that someone stacked them all into fancy designs. I was reminded that life is short, and no matter how important we think our issues are, no one remembers or cares a mere century later.

Paris – Notre Dame, Gardens

Arrived in Paris this morning after a 4.5 hour train ride at 200 mph. Crazy fast!

We are staying in an inexpensive sixth floor walk up apartment and it is 100+ degrees here. Hot. No air conditioning, so we are taking cold showers and pointing the fans directly at ourselves.
